Book Cover Brawl | Scalzi, Thurman, and Bacigalupi

The God Engines by John Scalzi (Subterranean Press)
This is Scalzi's first try at Fantasy, which I can't wait to read. I wasn't sure how I felt about the art at first, but I do like the look of the final.
Roadkill by Rob Thurman (Roc)
A nice piece of Chris McGrath art yet again for this Cal and Niko series. I enjoyed the first book, but since than the series has meandered a little, especially the last one. Hopefully this one picks it up a little.
The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi (Night Shade Books)
I love everything about this cover. The art is absolutely gorgeous and the title treatment works well. The Windup Girl is the first full length book based off the world Paolo created with the Hugo-nominated short stories The Calorie Man and Yellow Card Man. The Windup Girl is also supposed to be Greenpunk, the subgenre Matt Staggs has been talking about.

  1. Scalzi's cover is so overly-cheesy as to be interesting, but the Thurman cover is incredibly boring to me. Paolo's cover is absolutely gorgeous, the kind of cover you want to blow-up and put on a wall.

  2. Bacigalupi's book is one of my most anticipated reads this year. Glad it has a great cover too!
