I saw this live and laughed my ass off. I searched all over Sunday and yesterday for this clip, but apparently there are rights issues so check it out while it is still up. Enjoy!

VIDEO | Fan trailer for The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson
Brandon "The Machine" Sanderson's latest novel The Alloy of Law was just released and it was accompanied by a well made fan trailer to boot. The Alloy of Law is placed in the same world as the Mistborn trilogy only pushed ahead into a more Western age. Neth also did a great interview with Sanderson for those wanting to know a bit more about how this novel connects with the others and future plans for the Mistborn world.
I hope to get to Alloy before the end of year, but I'm not sure at this point as I'm trying to get to a few more debuts (Seed/The Night Circus) and long-awaited novels (The Magician King/The Iron Jackal) during that time. Plus Larry just set a challenge in my direction that I'll be answering. Right now I'm about a third through Mazarkis Williams' debut The Emperor's Knife and so far I'd put it in the near the top of Fantasy debuts of the year as it reminds me of Daniel Abraham crossed with Brent Weeks, but we'll see.

VIDEO | Cradle of the Scar by Peter Orullian author of The Unremembered
Peter Orullian is trying to take the Fantasy world by storm. So far he seems off to a good start. His debut The Unremembered although still two months away from release has already become a juggernaut of pre-publicity buzz, especially with Orullian fanning the flames with all sorts of extra being released on the web. He was name checked in my interview with Brandon Sanderson months ago. A series of short stories related to the world of The Unremembered in the series known as The Vaults of Heaven has already started to show up with the "Sacrifice of the First Sheason" being the first out and the second "The Great Defense of Layosah". A gorgeous map of the world is now up as well. And now Orullian has started a webisode series called "Cradle of the Scar" with a different artist set for each part. Part one was released late last month and here it is for those who haven't caught it yet.
And I'm lucky enough to unveil part 2:
Enjoy.

Axe Cop is a webcomic I've been reading a lot late after a friend lent me the first collected graphic novel. And man, it blew me away. Axe Cop is written by a 6 year-old boy and drawn by his 29 year-old cousin and is filled with such craziness that if an adult wrote it everyone would think he would need to be committed. For just a taste check out one of my favorite pages from the Ask Axe Copy feature.
That's right. It's a secret attack! Now we have a fan made short of Axe Cop, which nails the flavor perfectly.

NEWS | Terry Gilliam to Exec. Produce 1884 (A Steampunk Puppet Movie)
Tip of the hat to Tor Steampunk.
1884 is a Steampunk infused film that is being co-produced by Terry Gilliam and directed by Tim Olive who worked with Gilliam an various films in the past. 1884 will be a mix of puppets with CGI used for the heads, which should give the film an usual look and feel. Judging by the early clip above this should be a hoot and a half. Anything Gilliam is involved with never disappoints in terms of quality. Some Monty Python alums will be voicing some of the characters, but no word yet on who from the illustrious group have been committed.
Variety did a piece on the film where Gilliam said:
"The quality of the work is amazing: It's not slick and sleek CG work, such as studios in L.A. particularly produce. It looks crafted by an artisan, and the scale and design are spectacular."The goal is apparently to have a futuristic sci-fi story about 1884, but make it look as if it were made in 1884. No word on release date as they are still looking for the last bit of financing, but given Gilliam's involvement it should move forward. I've always been a fan of Gilliam's work especially Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

Everything You Need to Know About Prester John with Action Figures and lolcats
This week sees the release of Catherynne M. Valente's The Habitation of the Blessed. This will be the first in the Prester John Trinity from Night Shade. I haven't gotten a copy yet, but will very shortly as it is on my must-buy list plus this video pretty much seals the deal.
Valente also just launched a site for the series, which has all kinds of useful info on the history Prester John, sample chapters, and the original short story that inspired the series. Hopefully she'll treat us to more videos in the future.

VIDEO | Atomic Robo: Last Stop
Ever since my brother in-law introduced me to Atomic Robo earlier this year it has quickly become one of my favorite Graphic Novels. A simple description would be Hellboy starring a sentient robot with jokes. But in a lot of ways Atomic Robo is still vastly different from Hellboy. Atomic Robo isn't as dark or moody. It is made to just have fun with mad science, flipping through time, and yes Lovecraftian monsters. Lovecraft even makes a very important guest appearance as do other historical figures. The Fictory is attempting to make a short animated film based off Atomic Robo currently called Atomic Robo: Last Stop. Judging by the sample they are staying true to the vision created by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener. Robo doesn't appear until near the end of this sample, but it certainly whets my appetite for the full length version.

This little film is well worth checking out. The quality is that of a DreamWorks animated movie. If you just want to jump to the fight start at 2:45. The suits are quite impressive.
